American Stage is Tampa Bay's best professional regional equity theatre. Founded in 1977, the company's mission is to create the most satisfying live theatre in the Tampa Bay area, accessible to all members of the community. Their vision is to preserve the greatest human stories from our past, while creating the most defining stories and storytelling of our time. American Stage presents its six play Mainstage Series in its brand new, 182-seat Raymond James Theatre each year. The very popular American Stage in the Park celebrates its 25th Anniversary year. The theatre’s other programming includes: “After Hours” Series, School Tour, and camps and classes for children. The historic Coliseum was built in 1924, and purchased by the City of St. Petersburg in 1989. The Coliseum has undergone extensive renovations, making it one of the Tampa Bay area's most unique multi-use facilities. Named after Tampa Bay aviation pioneer Tony Jannus and known as Florida's oldest and largest outdoor concert venue, Jannus Landing actually comprises an indoor as well as a popular outdoor show space (Jannus Landing Courtyard). The brick-walled Jannus Landing Courtyard space creates interesting acoustical effects and makes a relatively small and unique concert venue given the big-name performers it attracts. Drawing an eclectic list of artists throughout the year, mostly in the alternative and rock genres, Jannus Landing also houses the Green Room nightclub, popular on non-concert evenings.

On the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront, Mahaffey Theater boasts 2,030 seats and European box-style seating, as well as a beautiful ballroom space, a three-story glass curtain wall, a glass-enclosed atrium and stunning views. Mahaffey Theater hosts everything from the Florida Orchestra to Broadway shows, from dance performances and popular music concerts to family entertainment.

Located in the heart of beautiful Downtown St. Petersburg, the newly renovated Progress Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater is a 2030-seat cultural jewel featuring elegant ballroom space, spectacular waterfront views, and European box-style seating. Just steps away from the culturally vibrant Downtown and minutes away from white sandy beaches and world-famous museums, the Mahaffey hosts top-quality national and international artists and performances – Broadway, classical, pop, rock, comedy, dance, family, and the renowned Florida Orchestra.  Additionally, the theater supports the highly successful Class Acts program, which enables school children to experience the performing arts through in-theater performances as well as in-school outreach and extension programs.

In 2005, the theater underwent a $20 million renovation, more than doubling the Theater’s lobby size and adding desirable guest amenities that were impossible to accommodate in the previous space. That same year, the City of St. Petersburg chose market leader SMG as the facility management company of the Progress Energy Center for the Arts-Mahaffey Theater.  SMG provides facility services to over 200 venues in 41 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada and Europe, and controls over 1.5 million entertainment seats worldwide and 34 performing arts centers nationwide.

The following year, Progress Energy and the City of St. Petersburg announced a 20-year partnership to rename the facility Progress Energy Center for the Arts. The Center will feature visual and performing arts- including the newly renovated Mahaffey Theater, the offices of the Mahaffey Theater Foundation, the Center Plaza Waterfront Park and the new home of the Salvador Dali Museum.

Built in 1924 with Beaux Arts-style architecture, St. Petersburg's 6,000-square-foot State Theatre was originally a bank and maintains its classic look today as a performance space. The State Theatre hosts a diverse line-up of concerts, featuring many artists of varying genres.

Founded in 1925, St. Petersburg Little Theatre endures as the longest-running community theatre in Florida. St. Petersburg Little Theatre aims to encourage and develop local non-professional talent through giving workshops and classes on all aspects of theatre performance and production as well as performing six productions each year on its main stage.

Located in Tampa Bay, we are the oldest, continuously operating community theater in the state of Florida; celebrates its 85th season in 2009-2010. The Mission of the St. Petersburg Little Theatre is to promote the advancement of live theatre and provide entertainment by developing and encouraging local non professional talent. Six mainstage productions are staged each season. Workshops and classes are given on a variety of topics including performance and technical aspects of theatre. Education and youth outreach are a main focus.
